Friends of Penistone Hill Country Park

Representatives from Friends of Ilkley Moor have kindly agreed to attend a meeting with residents and Worth Valley Ward Councillors to explore the idea of setting up a Friends of Penistone Hill Country Park group. Penistone Hill is a beautiful open space of moorland just outside the village of Haworth and the similarity to the area on Ilkley Moor made their Friends Of a natural group to look to for advice and support.  Clean ups with volunteers regularly take place to help preserve the beauty but the land is blighted  with fly tipping. A team of active dog walkers keep the council informed of any issues so that it can be dealt with promptly and the most recent reports included dumping of around 350 tyres over two weekends.

Following an initial meeting it is planned to have a public event in the New Year including a
presentation to encourage local people to sign up and do even more to protect and maintain the
site. Bradford Council Area Co-ordinators Office and Rights of Way officers will be on hand to
support and guide the group.
