Thornton Young `People Can` Clean up
The young members of Bradford Councils run Youth project in Thornton Village were concerned about the graffiti that had appeared on the local play area equipment. It was upsetting for young children and parents. So they decided to take positive action to clean it off; so with the help of Youth Workers, The Bradford West Area Co-ordinator’s staff and the Council’s Graffiti & Clean Teams, 10 of them aged 11 -14 volunteered.
So during the holidays on Thursday 3 June they arranged to clean up the equipment and litter pick the play area . The Clean up lasted for 2 hours and still some graffiti remained, which will be removed later.
The Young People learned how difficult it was to remove graffiti and the impact it has when done in the wrong place and hope that at some point in the future there may be a graffiti wall, till then they will monitor the play area and report findings to the Youth Workers.
