People Can Volunteer to Read in School With Kids

Did you know by reading in school with pupils you can rapidly advance their reading age by twelve months in just ten hours. With increasing pressure on teachers through SAT’s testing and curriculum changes, the help of volunteers providing one to one support in reading with children volunteers provides invaluable help. Reading Matters also has a fantastic partnership with The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley. The bookshop is organising amazing reading events to support the work of the charity.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who enjoys working with children, and loves reading. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and providing you are aged over 18, age is no barrier. Our current volunteers are aged 18 – 80. No qualifications necessary, but reliability and good communication skills are essential. We are looking for three terms commitment although we find many of our volunteers stay with us a lot longer. We are looking for committed individuals with a genuine interest in helping children to achieve.
